Hospitals cooperate to trim errors

Every year in Ohio, medical mistakes cause 60,000 injuries, kill 7,500 patients and add $450 million to the cost of health care.

In an effort to lower these numbers, 24 Ohio hospitals, including all in central Ohio, announced yesterday that they’ll work together to reduce hospital-acquired infections and medication errors.

The hospitals will share with one another the number of patients who acquire these infections or have medication errors, and then come up with best practices to prevent future mistakes.
