Join or renew your membership with the Ohio Chapter

The Ohio Chapter, ACS would like to invite you to become a member of one of the most progressive and active state chapters in the country! It’s your membership that will continue to let the Chapter focus on important issues facing Ohio surgeons.

Individual member surgeons have the opportunity to meet, interact, and become friends with colleagues from all over the state and from every type of specialty and practice situation when they become involved in the Ohio Chapter. They share knowledge, experiences and ideas; building long lasting, mutually respectful relationships that break down any perceived differences between community and academic or rural and urban or general and specialty surgeons. Chapter members benefit from a statewide personal support system assuring that there is always another surgeon on the other end of a phone call or text, ready and willing to assist a colleague in need.

The Ohio Chapter benefits from the extensive involvement of female surgeons in chapter activities and initiatives. Women are at the forefront of its leadership. Chapter leadership roles have afforded many the opportunity to move on to attain high-level positions with the American College of Surgeons at the national level.

One of the many important benefits offered by the Ohio Chapter to its members is an active and effective governmental affairs program. Over the past several years, the Ohio Chapter has substantially increased its efforts to proactively engage legislative and regulatory decision makers at the state level. The growing financial strain on the public and private health care delivery systems is creating difficult challenges for surgeons to continue to provide quality care to their patients while maintaining an economically viable practice. The Ohio Chapter recognizes that a strong advocacy voice in Columbus coupled with an active grassroots organization across Ohio is critical to protecting the practice of surgical medicine.

The Ohio Chapter continues to fight legislative battles for the Ohio surgical profession. Ohio Chapter members were represented at the Statehouse on important issues relevant to Ohio surgeons. In addition, we are monitoring expanded scope of practice of physician assistants and changes in mandatory requirements of basic health insurance.

Ohio Chapter members have played key advocacy roles in legislation on state trauma care, narcotic prescription exemptions for surgical and palliative care patients, prevention of legislative mandates on breast cancer care, colon cancer screening rules, and many others.
